I can't find this original one in shops I've used for yeeears. I bought the new tattoo gel liner and it is awful 😫😭 I'm going to have to search for a new brand for eyeliner

I've been using this eyeliner for about the last 10 years and honestly I loved it, it was the only one that could stay put in a waterline for hours on end. However I've bought a new pot since the formula changed and been out for a couple of nights out and it just isn't the same! It gathers in the eyeduct and just smears onto the bottom of my eye leaving nothing in the waterline - absolutely gutted!! It's like it just isn't waterproof anymore! Pleeease change it back to the original formula!

Terrible

I agree with everyone’s reviews on here. I’ve used this for 10+ years and this new formula is terrible. The pot dries out so quick that I bought 4 of these within the last 2 months and twice I returned it. I spend so much time now to do my eyes before work. I have to reapply which in return doesn’t help because it dries out so quick and removes the first layer. It doesn’t create a smooth line and gets all flaky to where it gets on my face etc. Please get the old formula back! The old one I had lasted for so long and even after leaving the pot opened here and there. My most recent one I bought already felt dried out the next day,
I assume there were people that tested this pot out prior
To releasing and not sure how this pot ended up
Replacing the older one when it was great to begin with.

Total rubbish. Not fit for purpose. The Lasting Drama one was brilliant but this Tattoo one is too dry. It’s impossible to apply and clumps of it fall into your eyes. Contacted Maybelline to give them some feedback but they didn’t want to know

The new formula for this gel pot is absolutely HORRIBLE! I’ve been using this gel pot since I was 15 and it’s been my favorite eye liner EVER. no smudge, doesn’t wear off like a pencil does after a long day.. but now they switched from lasting drama to tattoo studio and all it does is crack off little pieces in my eye and constantly makes my eyes water. So I’m faced with the decision to now use a horrible eyeliner pencil that I know will be gone by the end of the day, or deal with watery eyes all day and wear waterproof bottom mascara, because atleast my mascara won’t run! If I don’t apply it just right it all leaks into my eye, once you think you’ve got it all and put in your contacts now it’s ALL over your contacts. So I’ll be getting ready for work and have to completely redo my eyeliner cause sometimes it just won’t stop leaking from your water line into your eye unless you redo it! Don’t know why or how that works. I’m also writing this review at 5:45am while getting ready for work, WITH tears leaking from my eyes!! I’m over this formula! I don’t leave reviews on anything, I usually just deal with things or don’t use them but I’m genuinely upset that my absolute favorite eyeliner that I’ve used all my life is now horrible! Please bring back lasting drama!!

Been using this for years then when I bought a new one over a year ago. It just doesn’t go on to the brush or my face! New formula is absolutely useless! I agree with everyone else bring back the old formula that worked perfectly well!

Bring back old creamy formula

I have used the gel pot eyeliner for 12 years now and loved it never had an issue. It was perfect and creamy ro apply and would last all day even in water. But this new formula is way to dry to where I cant even apply it and hurts to apply it then flakes off so easily so I have to reapply multiple times a day. Please bring back the old formula. It never dried out and was creamy and would last till the last bit of the jar.

Former holy grail product RUINED by new formula

I discovered this product when I was a teenager and have worn it almost every day of my life since (I’m in my thirties now). For almost 20 years, it was PERFECT, and I truly planned to wear it for the rest of my life. I had never once considered even testing another eyeliner, it was literally the ideal version and I was fully devoted to it. Sadly I am now in the market for a new gel-pot eyeliner because this new formula is complete garbage. The old formula would glide on easily, with the perfect balance of thickness and creaminess, it was perfectly opaque and would last ALL DAY through anything — rain, sweat, tears, swimming in the ocean. The new formula is a battle to even apply. It’s far too thick, yet also dry, it doesn’t adhere to the brush well, and it goes on like a nightmare. It doesn’t seem to want to stick to the skin, it’s impossible to get a nice clear, crisp line, it’s so thick yet applies pale and immediately dries out. It takes so long and so many attempts to try to get a clear, crisp line that you have to go over the line multiple times and each new pass causes the existing layers to flake off in nasty dry bits that get all over the rest of my face. It actually physically hurts to apply now because I have to use such force and go over it so many times, causing me to poke and prod my eyelids in a way that is definitely going to contribute to wrinkles. Prior to this formula change my only complaint had ever been when they changed the brush design (the new one is WAY too thick for precision application), but I mitigated that by just holding onto one of the original brushes and using it with each new pot. It’s lasted me years at this point— years of DAILY use— but this new formula is so bad that I have to DIG into it and work it so much to get it creamy enough to just barely stick to the brush, that it’s starting to break my old brush. I’m truly so sad and disappointed.

Unusable! PLEASE RETURN BACK TO OLD FORMULA

I was the no.1 recommender for this eyeliner back in the day. Sadly the new formula is not only terrible but it is honestly unusual, gritty, dries on skin in clumps?? Leading it to break away, cannot put it on the waterline anymore. Not smooth or creamy, and even causes irritation. It's unusable. I had never had to rehydrate the old eyeliner, but you can't even hydrate this one. At first it was jusy clumpy?? Hard to get a nice amount on the brush, which was also better in the old eyeliner as it was just a brush and easy to hold, great quality, never dried up either because of the cap and no sponge end which gets annoying. I'm not sure why this eyeliner was ever changed to be honest as I heard nothing but raving reviews and even people thanking me for showing them a gel eyeliner that was beyond great quality that wouldn't break their wallets.

Not even mildly convincing.

Came out of the package completely dry, hard as a rock, and in the shape of like a perfect cylinder pellet. It doesn’t look like it was ever usable. I’ve never seen a dried up gel liner look like that. Like the pot wasn’t even touched, they just plopped a black plastic disc in there and called it eyeliner. You won’t get a full refund back for it. It’s a waste of money and honestly, I feel scammed. I even tried rehydrating it and that was pointless. Threw it away and took the L. Maybelline is falling off for sure. I used to use this product back in the day and it was fine, obviously they don’t care anymore. Sincerely, a hurt eyeliner girly. RIP maybelline.

New Formula is Garbage

This new formula is garbage. It’s no longer smooth or easy to apply, and by the afternoon my eyes feel irritated enough that I have to wash my face early.
I genuinely can’t believe Maybelline changed the formula, assumed customers wouldn’t notice, and then ignored the feedback. That’s a great way to destroy brand trust.
I’ve been using the original gel eyeliner since 2008/2009. I loved it so much that I always kept backups — one at the office, one in my travel bag, one in my gym bag. It was reliable, creamy, and never caused irritation.
Now I’m forced to find a different gel eyeliner entirely, and I won’t be returning to Maybelline. If the quality dropped this much on a hero product, I have to assume it’s happening across the line.

The new formula is horrible. I’ve used Maybelline’s gel liner for years and always loved it, but the recent version is completely different. It applies poorly and now leaves my eyelids feeling itchy and dry. Please bring back the original formula.

I used to adore this eyeliner, up until I just bought it again at the same price as last time, only to discover that it had HALF THE AMOUNT OF PRODUCT??? And not just that, the apparently new formula is so dry I can't even get a ducking line, let alone a wing with that stuff. Utterly, completely disappointed, I really want my money back

This had been the only eyeliner I'd use for years. It was absolutely perfect. Then then I noticed the formula had changed drastically. It was thick, dry and crumbly. Chunks would fall into my lashes and eyes. Unfortunately I will have to start using another brand and it's a shame that a wonderful product was ruined.

I have used Maybelline gel pots for over 15 years. I would have given them 5 stars early on, but in the last few years, they changed the formula to the "Tattoo" version. It is ok when it is brand new, but very quickly dries out and clump will fall in your eye and ball up on your brush. With the old formula, it lasted until I had almost used the entire pot, which was phenomenal value. Now, the value is lost when it's still 2/3 full and I have to toss it. Yes, you can microwave it or add some water, but it will just dry out again. I miss the old formula!

I used to love the actual lasting drama gel liner they had. It was honestly perfect for me and I've used it for years. This tattoo studio eyeliner is trash. It dries too quickly on the brush, it's flakey, and it doesn't apply as smooth. None of these were issues with the previous eyeliner

I have been using this eyeliner for years, I absolutely love it, nothing compares. Its the only eyeliner I’ve used thats actually waterproof as well (I have tried many). So smooth, so easy to use, never rubs off. Most importantly its affordable as well- which keeps me coming back just as much as the rest! I use it every day. If this product ever disappears

Easy to apply eyeliner! Able to stay in place in rainy and humidity conditions. I have hooded eyes and it does not smear once set in a minute or so. Like any brush, I clean after use. I love it!

I (like many others in the reviews ) have been using this eveliner for 10+ years. The formula has always been the same until now and it was always the most perfect and best eyeliner available. Now the tattoo studio version is gritty and hard to blend. Everytime I use it my eyes have some kind of allergic reaction and I can’t even finish my makeup because my eyes are watering so bad. Little pieces of it chunk off and get into my eyes and feel dry and cakey and is very unflattering looking due to the fact that it just does not blend. It’s not buildable at all because if I try to touch up my makeup it just doesn’t layer or blend on top of the first application. I am so disappointed because I’m gonna have to look for something to replace an eyeliner I would have used forever and hopefully I can find something as good. But this new one isn’t even an option. I literally will not use it Even as a last resort, I’m currently scraping the bottom of my old formula one to avoid using this new one.

Maybelline! What have you done? I agree with the majority of reviews. I’ve used this product for years but the new formula is terrible. It’s gritty. It smudges and definitely doesn’t glide on like it used to. I have previously recommended but will not anymore and will be looking for an alternative

Gritty eyeliner

I have been wearing maybellines liquid eyeliner for over 20 years and then the gel eyeliner when it came out. Loved the product and now they have changed it to something that looks like shoe polish. It’s so gritty and thick. The old one slides on on the lid and the new black lid one is so thick I’m sooooo disappointed. Will have to find a new brand.

Omg, i have been using this gel eyeliner for so many years i cant count anymore. Im so angry that i had to waste my money for that new tatoo version. I tought i wasnt lucky with it and maybe something went wrong in production on that day as it was dry and it was not possible to apply it on my skin. So after a month i went to different shop to be sure im not getting the same batch. Of course , only tatoo version available, gave it another chance. Absolutely unhappy, wasted my money twice. The same dry thing im not able apply on my skin at all. Cant find any similar product to the old one. People here- help with suggestions please. Im desperate for new eyeliner .

The best gel eyeliner!

This is the absolute best eyeliner I have ever used. My daughters introduced it to me when they were teens, and 15 years later I have still never found anything comparable. That said, a huge change occurred in the brush which is not a good one… It’s too flimsy and constantly breaks. Not to mention that two of my favorite shades, espresso and charcoal, are no longer available. Please bring back the “in between“ shades, because nothing comparable exists!

Have tried this and the tattoo version and they are both absolutely dreadful. Have been using the original Lasting Drama one for so many years and it was amazing. I've been scouring the internet for that one, only to find it's been discontinued and all the reviews across all the retailers sits on your new ones are really terrible and I have to absolutely agree. Wondering if you've seen all these thousands of reviews saying the same thing, and if so? Why on earth would you not immediately bring back the old formula. Please Maybelline 😭 really really loved the original, and now I will have to look for a totally different brand.

Dry virtually unusable product

I bought this eyeliner about 3 months ago but found it so dry and not in anyway could it be describe as a gel . I returned it to Boots who would not refund or exchange the product as i could not find the receipt so ended up buying another . On arriving home i tried the new gel only to find it was almost as bad so i returned this one for a refund with the receipt .
3 weeks ago i sent an e-mail to Mabelene H Q asking if they had changed the formula , but after sending photos of the product along with the batch number and purchase date , as requested , i received a reply stating that after consulting the relevant department they can assure me the formula has not changed and to consult with the oulet that sold it to me . Not happy with this product at all .

Product such poor quality now

I came here to read the reviews and I'm so glad I did. I thought maybe I was unlucky and had bought a dud pot of Eyeliner. I have used this product for so many years and haven't found another like it that equalled its quality at an affordable price. When this product suddenly became discontinued and replaced with an alternative product, I believed it was just a design change in the packaging and presumed the product would stay the same but all the reviews saying what a poor alternative the tattoo gel liner is are 100% accurate. It doesn't stay put, the application is poor as the gel is so dry. The quality of this product now is of such a low standard that it is severely damaging my opinion of Maybelines brand as a producer of quality products. This is the second product of their's, that I use, to have gone downhill, the other being their Sky High mascara.

Where has this original liner gone?

Can't find this in the shops anywhere. I bought the tattoo liner which seems to be the replacement but it is shocking! Just awful and doesn't come close to the original. Why did it change? The new one is so dry it doesn't apply properly. Bad move Maybelline!!

Please bring back the original! The new tattoo one is so so awful I’m going to throw it in the bin. I used the original lasting drama gel pot for years and nothing else compares to it! Why do companies always discontinue or change products?! Bring back the original!!

The applicator is really horrible, but if you have a thin brush, the liner lasts for at least 6-8 hours. It stays well, but it's easy to smudge to your preferences if you like a smokey eye. Very highly recommend!
